How is End of Service Calculated in Saudi Arabia?
The EOS benefit depends on three factors:
- Basic Salary (SAR): monthly salary allowances.
- Reason for Termination – resignation, termination, or contract completion.
- Reason for Termination – resignation
The General Formula
- For the first 5 years of service:
- Half a month’s salary per year of service.
- After 5 years of service:
One full month’s salary per year for the remaining years.
Example
- First 5 years = (10,000 ÷ 2) × 5 = 25,000 SAR
- Next 2 years = (10,000 × 2) = 20,000 SAR
- Total EOS = 45,000 SAR
Example
- Salary: 15,000 SAR
- Service: 15 years
- Benefit: (15,000 ÷ 2 × 5) + (15,000 × 10) = 162,500 SAR
Practical Examples & Case Studies
Example 1 – Resignation after 3 Years
- Salary: 8,000 SAR
- Service: 3 years
- Contract: Unlimited
- Benefit: One-third of 12,000 = 4,000 SAR
Example 2 – Termination after 7 Years
- Salary: 12,000 SAR
- Service: 7 years
- Benefit: (12,000 ÷ 2 × 5) + (12,000 × 2) = 54,000 SAR
Example 3 – Completion of 15 Years
- Salary: 15,000 SAR
- Service: 15 years
- Benefit: (15,000 ÷ 2 × 5) + (15,000 × 10) = 162,500 SAR
Limited vs Unlimited Contracts
There are two types of contracts; the details are given below:
Limited Contract
- Employee is entitled to full EOS if the contract ends or the employer terminates.
- If the employee resigns before the end of the contract, entitlement may be reduced.
Unlimited Contract
- EOS entitlement depends heavily on years of service and resignation rules.
- If resigning before 2 years, the employee usually EOS.
- Between 2–5 years, only one-third is given.
